Our monthly SEO plans cost £1,200 or £1,750, and the audit that comes before them is free. Across Oxford the figures you will be quoted run from a few hundred pounds a month to a few thousand, so this guide sets out what sits behind each end of that range.

If you already have quotes in hand, the last two sections list what a monthly fee should buy and the prices that deserve a second look.

Every price below is one we charge or one Google showed. For the detail of what our SEO packages include, see our SEO page.

What Does SEO Cost in Oxford?

To see what a buyer here is told, we read the Oxford searches in August 2026. On one reading of seo oxford, Google’s AI Overview said: “Small local campaigns typically range from £300 to £500 per month, while comprehensive SME packages cost between £1,000 and £2,500 per month.” For seo oxfordshire, the same kind of answer described one county agency’s monthly packages as starting from £300.

The adverts Google placed beside a search for local SEO in Oxford spanned a wider range: one offered packages from £119 per month, another priced its plans from £2,000 a month, and the same advertiser sold an audit on its own for £1,499 plus VAT.

Treat all of these as what was on the screen that month, not as prices we checked with each agency. Our two monthly plans sit inside the band Google gave for a fuller package.

Why Do SEO Prices Vary So Much?

Two quotes for the same website can differ several times over and both be honest, because they price different amounts of work. These are the things that move a quote:

  • How hard your searches are to win. A phrase a handful of Oxford firms chase moves sooner than one every national brand wants.
  • The state of the site. Slow pages, broken links or pages Google cannot read have to be fixed before new work pays off.
  • How much is written for you. New pages and articles take more hours than any other part of SEO.
  • Local or national reach. Winning searches in Oxford asks for less than winning them across the UK.
  • Who does the work. A senior specialist on your account costs more than a junior one or work passed to a third party.
  • Mentions from other sites. Earning links and citations is slow, careful work, and some agencies leave it out.

How Do Agencies Charge for SEO?

You will meet four ways of paying. A monthly retainer pays for a set amount of ongoing work and suits SEO best, because results build over months. A one-off audit or project pays for a fixed piece of work, such as a technical review or a set of new pages. Consultancy pays for advice while your own team does the work. An hourly or daily rate pays for time, and is hardest to compare, because the quote does not say what the hours produce.

Whichever way an agency charges, ask it to list the work a month’s fee covers. Two retainers at the same price can hold very different amounts of it.

How Much Should SEO Cost for a Small Business?

Start from what a new customer is worth to you, not from the price list. Work out how many new customers a month would cover the fee, then ask whether that many people search for what you sell in Oxford. If they do, a starting plan is a fair test of search as a source of work.

A smaller budget can still pay off if the work is narrow: one service, one town, a handful of pages done well. What rarely pays off is a low fee spread thinly across everything.

Is It Worth Paying for SEO?

It is worth it when people already search for what you sell and one new customer is worth more than a few months of fees. SEO is slow to start and keeps working after the effort that built it, which is where its value comes from.

It is not worth it if almost nobody searches for your service, or if you need customers this month rather than this year. Paid search answers that need faster, at the cost of paying for every click.

What Should a Monthly SEO Fee Include?

Whoever you choose, a monthly fee should buy you these as standard:

  • A written report each month of what was done and what moved, with figures from your own Google Search Console.
  • A named person who knows your account and answers your questions.
  • A plan for the next month, agreed with you before the work starts.
  • Full ownership of every page, article and account created for you.
  • Freedom to leave without a long notice period.

Which SEO Prices Should Make You Wary?

A low price is not a warning in itself. These are:

  • A promise of first place on Google. Nobody controls the results, so nobody can sell a position.
  • Paying by the number of keywords ranked, which rewards phrases nobody searches for.
  • A cheap monthly fee tied to a year’s contract, so the saving is paid back in time you cannot leave.
  • A set-up fee with no list of what it pays for.
  • Links sold by the hundred. Bulk links are the kind Google discounts or penalises.
