The SEO agencies working in Oxford, and how to tell them apart

By the Scale Oxford team6 min read

Nine SEO agencies in Oxford and Oxfordshire compared on location, focus and Google reviews, plus five questions to ask any agency before you sign.

We sell SEO in Oxford too, so we have left ourselves off this list. To weigh us up as well, read about our own SEO service in Oxford.

Google showed these nine when we searched for seo oxford, seo agency oxford, seo services oxford, seo consultant oxford and seo oxfordshire in August 2026. Each has an office in Oxford or Oxfordshire, nobody paid to be here, and the order is A to Z, not a ranking.

How We Chose Them

A search for SEO in Oxford returns more national firms than local ones. Many run one page per town with the town name swapped in, and some of the lists you will find are written by an agency that puts itself first. We set four rules and kept to them.

The reviews in the table are the Google rating and count shown beside each business when we read the results. Where we saw no Google profile for an agency, the table says so rather than guessing.

  • An office in Oxford or Oxfordshire, so firms with a page for every town in the country are out.
  • Seen by us on Google for an Oxford search about SEO or marketing in August 2026, in the map or on page one.
  • SEO sold as a service in its own right, not only as an extra on a website build.
  • No payment and no swaps. Nobody asked to be included, and we left ourselves out.

A1 SEO Oxford

A1 SEO Oxford has a Google profile on Turl Street, in the middle of the city, and was first in the map results for seo services oxford and seo consultant oxford when we searched. The profile showed three years or more in business and three reviews, all five stars, one of them thanking it for local SEO work.

Three reviews is a small sample. If you are shortlisting it, ask to see work for a business like yours.

Beyond Your Brand

Beyond Your Brand works from Witney and had the most Google reviews of any agency on this list: 69, all at five stars. It has its own Oxford pages for SEO and for Google Ads, and presents itself as an agency for the whole county rather than the city alone.

In one Oxford map result we read, it sat fourth, behind agencies with far fewer reviews. That is distance at work: Google weighs how close a business is to the person searching, so an office outside the city counts against it there, whatever its reviews say.

Common Ground

Common Ground calls itself a senior-led Oxford digital marketing agency, and its paid search pages speak to B2B brands. Its office is at Kings Meadow in Osney. Google listed it as trading for seven years or more, with 28 five-star reviews, and showed it in the map for seo agency oxford, seo services oxford and seo consultant oxford.

Worth a look if you sell to other businesses and want search and paid ads planned together.

Loop Digital

Loop Digital sells SEO to businesses in Witney and across Oxfordshire, and says its team has more than 75 years of experience between them. Its SEO page was on the first page for seo oxfordshire when we searched.

A sensible call if your customers are spread across the county rather than inside the ring road.

Oxford Marketing Company

Oxford Marketing Company is on the second floor of Clarendon House, 52 Cornmarket Street, and was first in the map results for seo agency oxford when we searched, with 29 reviews at five stars. Its SEO page calls it Oxford’s number one SEO company, and it describes itself as a Google Partner.

It also sells Google Ads, web design and social media, which suits a business that wants one agency across several channels.

Oxford Search Lab

Oxford Search Lab calls itself a specialist SEO and GEO agency: it works on Google and on AI answers, and says it does almost nothing else. It is based at the Wheelhouse on St Clement’s Street and was founded by Dan Richardson and Alex Sayers, who each say they spent around fifteen years in agencies first.

Its pages were in the top two results for seo oxford in three of our four readings, and Google’s AI Overview for that search named it first. A good fit if you want specialists rather than a general agency.

Oxford SEO

Oxford SEO, at oxfordseo.co.uk, was first or second for seo oxford in three of our four readings. It has separate pages for local SEO, SEO audits, technical SEO and ecommerce SEO, and says it works for national businesses as well as local ones.

Google’s AI Overview mentioned it on seo oxford, seo audit services oxford and ecommerce seo oxford, every time we read them. It is a different business from A1 SEO Oxford.

Urban Element

Urban Element describes itself as a Google-accredited agency based near Oxford, and its Google profile lists Bloxham Mill Business Centre, with 16 reviews averaging 4.6. Its Oxford SEO page was the first result for seo services oxford when we searched.

It sells social media marketing and Google Ads alongside SEO, so it suits a business that wants one team on several channels without leaving Oxfordshire.

Zest Digital

Zest Digital is also at Kings Meadow, on Osney Mead, with ten Google reviews averaging 4.8 and ten years or more in business. Its SEO page calls it Oxford’s leading SEO agency, and it sells SEO as part of a wider digital marketing service.

What Should You Ask an SEO Agency Before You Sign?

Five questions sort most agencies quickly. A good one will answer each in plain words and put the answers in writing.

  • Where do you rank for your own service in Oxford? Search for it yourself. A new agency may not rank yet, but it should be able to say why and what it is doing about it.
  • Who will do the work? Ask for names, and whether any of it is passed to a subcontractor.
  • What will I see each month? Ask for a sample report. It should show rankings, visits and enquiries, not only a list of tasks.
  • How long is the contract? Get the minimum term and the notice period in writing before you sign.
  • What do you need from us? Good SEO needs access to your site and your analytics, and some of your time. An agency that asks for nothing will change very little.

How Do You Tell a Specialist From a Reseller?

A reseller sells SEO under its own name and hands the work to a supplier, often as a fixed package bought in bulk. That is not always bad, but you should know before you pay for it.

Three signs are worth watching for. The person selling to you cannot answer a technical question without checking with someone else. The monthly report is a branded export with no comment on what changed or why. And the price is set before anyone has looked at your website.

A specialist will want to see your site first, will name the people doing the work, and will tell you what it will not do as readily as what it will.
