We charge £800 for a business website and £950 for an online shop, each paid once. Below is what each price covers, what custom work costs, and what makes any web design project cost more or less.
If you are comparing quotes from several web designers, the last section lists the questions that tell a fixed price from a starting price.
What a Business Website Costs
Our business website is £800, paid once. That covers designing and building up to 10 pages on WordPress, your contact forms, and the hosting and domain set up for you, so Google can find the site the day it goes live.
It suits most service businesses: a home page, a page for each service, an about page and a way to get in touch. The project timing is 7 days.
What an Online Shop Costs
Our ecommerce launch package is £950, paid once. We work out with you which platform suits what you sell, build the shop, add your products and hand it over yours, ready for its first order.
What a Custom Website Costs
Some websites need to do more than show pages and take enquiries: take bookings, hold a member area, connect to a stock or customer system, or run in more than one language. Each of those is work of its own, so we price it after a call about exactly what it has to do, rather than quoting a range that may not fit.
The Three Side by Side
The same three options in one place, with what each price covers.
| Website | Price | What is included | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business website | £800, once | Design and build of up to 10 pages, forms, hosting and domain set up | Service businesses that need to be found and contacted |
| Online shop | £950, once | Platform chosen with you, shop built, products added | Businesses ready to sell online |
| Custom website | Priced after a call | Whatever the site has to do beyond pages and enquiries | Bookings, member areas and links to other systems |
What Makes a Website Cost More
Wherever you buy web design, in Oxford or anywhere else, the same few things move the price.
- The number of pages, and whether each one is designed or filled from a template
- Who writes the words, since copy for ten pages is a job of its own
- How many products a shop holds, and how many options each one has
- Anything the site has to connect to, such as a booking calendar or a stock system
- Search work done during the build, such as page titles, structure and speed
What It Costs After Launch
A website has running costs once it is built. Your domain renews every year, and hosting is paid monthly or yearly.
Two things are optional. If you want a web designer on hand after launch, our web design consultancy is £500 a month. If you want the site to climb Google, SEO starts at £1,200 a month.
How to Compare Website Quotes
Two quotes for what sounds like the same website can be far apart, and the difference is usually in what is not written down. These questions bring it out:
- Is the price fixed, or a starting point that grows as the work goes on?
- How many pages does it cover, and who writes them?
- Will you own the site, the content and the domain once it is paid for?
- Are page titles, speed and a sitemap set up before launch, or sold later as SEO?
- What will it cost each year once it is live?
- How long will it take, and what will you need from me?
